The Last Master: Music of Bernhard Hagen

  • Church of Our Saviour 65 East Hollister Street Cincinnati, OH, 45219 United States (map)

Christopher Wilke, baroque lute, performs "The Last Master": music of Bernhard Hagen. Renowned baroque lutenist Christopher Wilke—a former student of Paul O'Dette's and now director of guitar and lute at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music—will perform a recital dedicated to the sonatas of Bernhard Joachim Hagen. One of the last composers to write for the lute, Hagen left a rich body of sonatas known as much for their sweeping melodic style and dramatic changes of mood as well as for their extreme technical difficulty. Virtually unheard today, come hear the sublime beauty of this rare music be reborn in the unparalleled acoustics and visual environment of the Church of Our Saviour.
